Renew the special diabetes program

This November – National Diabetes Month – let’s be thankful for all of the scientists, researchers and doctors who are working hard to understand, treat and prevent diabetes. And let’s make sure that Congress continues to fund the special diabetes program, which is scheduled to expire next year unless its members act to renew this year.

Thank you to the 33 teams and more than 500 athletes, fans, volunteers, sponsors and refs who came out on Saturday to make the 5th Annual Dodging Diabetes Charity Dodgeball Tournament a total success. Together we raised more than $13,000 for the Joslin Diabetes Center for research, treatment and education.

Joslin scientists led by Principal Investigator Robert Stanton, M.D., have discovered that high blood glucose levels damage a key enzyme that guards insulin-producing beta cells. Their surprising finding raises hopes of finding drugs that protect the enzyme, and thus the beta cells and their insulin production.

32 days left til the big tournament

We can’t believe that there are only 32 days left until the 4th annual Dodging Diabetes Charity Dodgeball Tournament. (So if you’re a team captain… sign up quickly!!) We know times are tough, but we’re hopeful that our athletes, fans, volunteers and sponsors will continue to support the Joslin Diabetes Center through our tournament. Diabetes is an expensive disease to manage effectively so this year its more important than ever to continue to support Joslin’s education, treatment and research efforts. We’re still looking for teams, volunteers and sponsors so please help us spread the word.
