The Dodging Diabetes Charity Dodgeball Tournament website has been awarded a Silver 2010 Communicator Award by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals. Founded by communication professionals over a decade ago, The Communicator Awards is an annual competition honoring the best in advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for print, video, interactive and audio. Great Gazette story about Dodgeball:
“Two downcounty residents are celebrating their fifth year raising money for diabetes research and awareness through a unique fundraiser — a charity dodgeball tournament.

Inspired by the 2004 movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” Bethesda resident Anna Tiedeman Irwin and Chevy Chase resident Elizabeth Kramer launched the “Dodging Diabetes” event after watching both of their younger brothers struggle with Type I diabetes. Irwin, a 1996 Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart graduate, and Kramer, a 1995 Holton-Arms School graduate, connected when their mothers met at a diabetes fundraising event. The two decided they wanted to do something a little different to raise money and awareness about the disease.

“The movie had just come out, and I had this idea — what if we could do a dodgeball tournament, something everyone could participate in with no skill required?” said Irwin.”

Thank you to the 33 teams and more than 500 athletes, fans, volunteers, sponsors and refs who came out on Saturday to make the 5th Annual Dodging Diabetes Charity Dodgeball Tournament a total success. Together we raised more than $13,000 for the Joslin Diabetes Center for research, treatment and education.

There is still time to donate and please make sure to be a fan of our facebook page. See you next March!

Parking at Champions Field House on Saturday

Important Parking Update:

On Saturday for the tournament at Champions Field House, all participants need to park in the DHL parking lot and walk up (a 2 minute walk up the hill). Please do NOT to park at the ice rink or Rockville Sportsplex, cars will be towed.

Parking at DHL will reduce the bottlenecking of cars in the Champions Field House lot as there is nowhere to turn around once you get in.
