Great Gazette story about Dodgeball:
“Two downcounty residents are celebrating their fifth year raising money for diabetes research and awareness through…

Great Gazette story about Dodgeball:
“Two downcounty residents are celebrating their fifth year raising money for diabetes research and awareness through a unique fundraiser — a charity dodgeball tournament.

Inspired by the 2004 movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” Bethesda resident Anna Tiedeman Irwin and Chevy Chase resident Elizabeth Kramer launched the “Dodging Diabetes” event after watching both of their younger brothers struggle with Type I diabetes. Irwin, a 1996 Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart graduate, and Kramer, a 1995 Holton-Arms School graduate, connected when their mothers met at a diabetes fundraising event. The two decided they wanted to do something a little different to raise money and awareness about the disease.

“The movie had just come out, and I had this idea — what if we could do a dodgeball tournament, something everyone could participate in with no skill required?” said Irwin.”

Thank you Senators Collins and Dorgan for introducing the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) (S. 3058) bill which would provide $200 million each year for the next 5 years for research, development of therapies, and treatment methods to help type 1 diabetics treat the disease in the long term.

Sen. Dorgan, founder of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, and Sen. Collins made us proud today. Urge your Senator to support the Special Diabetes Program. The bill would also provide $200 million a year for treatment initiatives targeted to American Indian and Alaska Native populations, groups that are particularly hard hit by diabetes.

Dodging Diabetes™ is thrilled Joslin Diabetes Center’s research continues to lead the way with groundbreaking discoveries like this one getting us one step closer to preventing and utlimately curing diabetes http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/175167.php

Joslin scientists led by Principal Investigator Robert Stanton, M.D., have discovered that high blood glucose levels damage a key enzyme that guards insulin-producing beta cells. Their surprising finding raises hopes of finding drugs that protect the enzyme, and thus the beta cells and their insulin production.
