Starting Monday morning (10/24) please visit http://dealsfordeeds.com/page/vote (or go to dealsfordeeds.com and click on the VOTING button) and cast a vote for which organization/goal they’d like to see featured in the coming weeks. Please note that while the page is currently active, next week’s organization will not be available until Monday morning. The page will contain a brief summary of Dodging Diabetes® and 2 other local non-profits, as well as place for users to select which non-profit they’d like to see on our site. LET’S WIN!! Voting will take place through Friday (10/28) at 5 PM. Dodging Diabetes in Iraq

Dodging Diabetes has reached Iraq thanks to our friend and ref Randy DeCleene who had a flag flown high over camp Speicher in Tikrit, Iraq. We have a certificate we’re so excited to frame. And you better believe the flag will be proudly displayed at the next tournament… on Sunday March 13. See you there!

“Two downcounty residents are celebrating their fifth year raising money for diabetes research and awareness through a unique fundraiser — a charity dodgeball tournament.

Inspired by the 2004 movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” Bethesda resident Anna Tiedeman Irwin and Chevy Chase resident Elizabeth Kramer launched the “Dodging Diabetes” event after watching both of their younger brothers struggle with Type I diabetes. Irwin, a 1996 Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart graduate, and Kramer, a 1995 Holton-Arms School graduate, connected when their mothers met at a diabetes fundraising event. The two decided they wanted to do something a little different to raise money and awareness about the disease.

“The movie had just come out, and I had this idea — what if we could do a dodgeball tournament, something everyone could participate in with no skill required?” said Irwin.”

Thank you to the 33 teams and more than 500 athletes, fans, volunteers, sponsors and refs who came out on Saturday to make the 5th Annual Dodging Diabetes Charity Dodgeball Tournament a total success. Together we raised more than $13,000 for the Joslin Diabetes Center for research, treatment and education.
